Who was Pastor Bertrand Bailey, Sr?

In 1980, God sent Reverend Bertrand Bailey, Sr. to St. Andrew Baptist Church of Tulsa, Oklahoma with a wife and four young children. As a progressive minded preacher, he wanted to make a difference in the community, city, state and even the world. He had an evangelist thrust to reach the North Tulsa community by adopting the apartment complex across the streetfrom the church then known as Vernon ManorApartments and squaring off a target area of the community to reach one more soul for Christ.Pastor Bailey worked with Mayors, City Councilors,Tulsa Police Chiefs, the Police Department and the TPD Black Officers Coalition as a community activist, leading the movement to make Tulsa a better place for minorities and disadvantaged people. A countless number of community meetings were held at St. Andrew with political figures, law enforcement, North Tulsa Pastors and Business entrepreneurs joinedforces to solve current day problems that plagued the North Tulsa Community. In 2017, Mayor GT Bynum and other city and state officials recognized this Pastor for his labor or love for this community with a section of Garrison Avenue being named Dr. Bertrand Bailey Sr. Avenue in his honor. He was known for his powerful preaching, his dynamic teaching, his melodious singing and his administrative ability.He served as Creek District Baptist Association Moderator, the Oklahoma Baptist State Director of Christian Education and the State Congress Dean. He was recruited to serve on the National Baptist Convention Sunday School Board’s National Advisory Committee and the National Executive Council and later became the Regional Coordinator for the Western Region. He was a contributing writer for the Christian Education Informer. Pastor Bailey received in 2011, the National “Instructor of the year Award”from the NBC Sunday School Publishing Board. Dr. Jerry Young, President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. honored Dr. Bailey in 2016 with a Medallion and a plaque for his 50 years of Gospel preaching.The city of Tulsa, the state of Oklahoma, this Nation and this world are a better place because of the work and sacrifice of Dr. Bertrand M.
